Reading Passage

Taipei 101 is a very tall building in Taiwan. It has 101 floors! From 2004 to 2010, it was the tallest building in the world. Many people come to see it every year.

The building looks like bamboo. Bamboo is a lucky plant in Chinese culture. There are eight sections that look like bamboo parts. Eight is also a lucky number in Taiwan.

Inside the building, there is a huge ball. This ball is called the damper. It weighs 660 tons! When there is an earthquake or strong wind, the ball swings to keep the building safe.

You can take the elevator to the top. The elevator is very fast. It takes only 37 seconds to go up 89 floors! From the top, you can see all of Taipei city.

Every New Year, there is a big fireworks show at Taipei 101. Thousands of people come to watch. The fireworks shoot out from the building. It is very beautiful!
