Giant African Snails Elementary

Reading Passage
Giant African snails are some of the largest snails in the world. They can grow up to 20 centimeters long. That is bigger than your hand! These snails come from East Africa. They have big brown and yellow shells.
These snails are very hungry animals. They eat over 500 different kinds of plants. They like fruits, vegetables, and flowers. They can even eat concrete walls because they need calcium for their shells.

Giant African snails are now found in many countries. People brought them as pets or food. But they can be dangerous to farms. They eat crops very fast and have many babies.
One snail can lay up to 1,200 eggs in one year. The babies grow very quickly. This is why they are hard to control. Many places are trying to stop them from spreading.
In some countries, people eat these snails as food. The snails have lots of protein. Scientists study them to find ways to protect farms. Giant African snails are truly amazing creatures!
